CASE SUMMARY

Harvard grad student Joan Webster disappeared from Logan Airport on November 28, 1981, returning from Thanksgiving break. The case was heavily publicized and has been the subject in numerous books. State and federal authorities promoted a false theory. No one has ever been charged with Joan's murder. The case remains open in Essex County, MA.

The condition of Joan’s remains were not known until 1990. Joan had a 2" x 4" hole on the right side of her skull. She was stripped of all clothing. None of her belongings were found in the vicinity except a gold neck chain and gold ring on Joan's skeletal remains. Joan was discarded in a black plastic trash bag and buried in a shallow basin in a heavily wooded area that often flooded. Two distinct layers of cut logs were stacked over the gravesite on two separate occasions.
